Sometimes something really special can be happening right under our noses and yet few people know it’s there. James Cleveland is just this kind of secret, and discovering his outdoor gallery is the must-see tourist attraction of 2009!

Just forty minutes outside of Halifax, this artist has been living on one of Nova Scotia’s most beautiful islands for over forty years. He has produced a wealth of work examining Nova Scotia’s disappearing fishing villages and his own heritage as the son of a long line of fisherman.

Now he has put his imagination to showing this work in an all new way: setting up a gallery outside and putting his artwork right in the context that inspired it. Come see these paintings on display under the branches of an apple tree, with the horizon to your right, a castle to your left, and a little green bridge leading to his island home. Watch as sailing boats come and go in this tiny cove while this weathered artist tells you about his work and his unique life by the sea.

Visit if you want to see something truly special to Nova Scotia!
